Those of you who know me well, know that I love food and I love to cook.
Though my quarter-annual posts on my food blog are a poor representation, it is by far my greatest passion.
In college for my senior capstone, I got to develop a product for a company called
Lehi Roller Mills. I also worked on several other product development teams for competitions as well as a group that developed some of the church welfare products. I loved it so much that when we moved to San Diego 2 years ago, I seriously looked into going to culinary school. Culinary school paired with my degree in food science is what many people do who go on to develop recipes for large companies, magazines, etc. My dream job! I toured the school and had a start day picked out until I found a job where I thought I would get to use my food science skills from college. My job (
described here) turned out to be a lot more operations that developing recipes - but I did get to work on food related things!

Gift to myself? Absolutely. Don't worry Nate also got me a new Chef's knife...
I think I might go to culinary school one day, but for now I can learn like I'm in cooking school - without having to fork out $20,000 for admissions ;)
