B is for Baby!

This weekend my friend Caroline and I threw a baby shower for our dear friend Jessica!
She doesn't know if she is having a boy or girl yet, but we wanted to have a shower before she moves away to Boston.
We picked a "B is for Baby" theme thanks to pinterest. How did people plan events before pinterest? Seriously!
The lovely Mom-to-be!
Onesies my friend Caroline made... So cute!
Pom Poms!
 The games...
The party favors...
And my favorite part - the food!
I made macarons to match the shower colors. No lies these little friends are hard to make! So I was quite proud of myself.
 Blond Brownies - recipe here.

Baked brie...
The drinks!

Jess and I. I love her!

Sisters.
 The hostesses!
Some of my favorite people!

It was so fun to plan everything and celebrate!
I just don't know what I'm going to do with myself when Jess moves to Boston.
Scott and I will definitely have visit and meet her little one when he/she arrives :)

Scott at 14 Months

Scott has definitely made the leap over to toddlerhood as is evidenced by his behavior these days - both for good and for bad...

He has been walking since 10 1/2 months and walking well since 11 months... Now he RUNS all over the place! It can be really cute like as soon as he hears the door open he runs over to watch Dada come up the stairs and greet him. And also not so cute when he runs away from me when he knows it's time to do something like leave the park. He always seems very determined with where he has to go and what he has to do. He is very determined in general. When we read him books we ask a lot of "where's the ____" and he knows how to point out lots of things now - but if he doesn't know what something is he still confidently points at something on the page every time.

Scott loves to dance and starts dancing whenever he hears music (video here). He understands so many things now. If you tell him to clap, stomp, dance, bring over a certain toy, close the garage, turn on the light, or even "raise the roof" he will do it. And he will finally give hugs if you ask him for one! He also loves to help me do things like turn around and put the items I hand him in the cart at the grocery store or put cupcake liners in the muffin tins when we bake. He pretends to stir things with a bowl and spatula I give him while I cook and INSISTS on pushing the stroller rather than riding in it when we give him a chance (video here).
He has started saying a lot more words which is fun! He favorite words are car and shoes. He always points out LOTS of cars to me when we are in the car as well as his toy cars. In fact anything with wheels from trains, tractors, and wagons is a "car" in his mind.

Scott is obsessed with shoes. He always brings his shoes to me and wants to put them on. He also has to point out to me every time I put on shoes and tries to wear Nate and I's shoes all over the house. One of his other favorite things is balloons. I never noticed HOW many balloons there are tied to the produce islands at the grocery store (especially at Sunflower Market) but Scott notices and points out all of them. Other words he says include mama, dada, ball, flower, bye-bye, lion, slide and a few more.

Scott LOVES doggies and gets so excited when he can pet some at the park.

He also thinks everything is a phone these days and spends lots of time pretending to talk on them.
He is so busy and into everything always. It seems like he always has at least one bump on his head from all of his exploring.

Scott is still pretty bald, but getting more hair. No complaints here! No hair means no maintenance of hair. He is also still a great eater. Sleep on the other hand has been an issue the past few weeks. He has been making the switch from 2 naps to 1 and his schedule has been all over the place. I'm excited for him to settle into the 1 nap routine so we can have a schedule to count on again!

Scott's "signature move" is the point. He points at everything. Nate and I call him our little tour guide because whenever people come over he points out the fan, chandelier, and various other things to our friends. He still loves people. A few days ago I was waiting at a light in the car and heard him start laughing. I turned around and he was smiling and waving at 2 girls standing on the curb. He does the same thing to drive-through bank tellers and cashiers. He loves to make people laugh and loves laughing himself (video here).

But unfortunately Scott is not happy and laughing 24/7. He has started throwing mini fits when he doesn't get what he wants which is not fun for anyone involved. He has perfected the back arch and freak-out flail when you take him away from something he shouldn't be doing... He is also a nightmare a church. I don't know what his deal is. Maybe he just hates being confined but it seems every week we are taking shifts in the hallway for 2 1/2 of the 3 hours of church. Nursery cannot come fast enough!

He definitely fits the definition of a busy little boy!
While his extreme curiosity and rambunctiousness makes my job hard, it makes life so fun.
I would pick him out of any other kid in the world every time!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Sometimes when I need to make dinner Scott watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on my computer...
It is still a special treat to him and he LOVES it...
I had to video tape his reaction because I think it's so funny.

San Diego Trip

Scott and I just got back from a trip to San Diego! Nate has been really busy with work so we left for a week so he could focus on that and we could have fun! I think I got the better end of the deal ;) Plus Nate's sister Katie came to San Diego at the same time so we got to see her and Scott's cousins! We have MISSED San Diego - the beach, the weather, Trader Joe's, and our friends there.
We had fun playing a Grandma's house! Scott loved being with his cousins, playing in the yard, going in the pool, swinging on the swing set, and celebrating Jacob's birthday!
Oh how I wish we had a yard of our own for Scott! He loves being outside.
Grandma also has the best toys at her house!
Scott loves his cousin Sarah! They are only 3 weeks apart in age and loved hanging out together.
We went to visit my friend Erica and Scott got to meet her cats Lux and Teddy. He was more than enthusiastic about it.
My sister-in-law and I went for a walk on the boardwalk at Mission Bay while my nephews rode scooters.
I met up with some of my old friends and we had a picnic with our kids.
It was so fun to see how much bigger all the kids got in just a few months!
We also had a girls night out one of the nights. I love these ladies. And miss them all so much!
I took Scott to the beach. Last time we went to the beach he couldn't walk so I was excited to see his reaction.
He was a little apprehensive about the sand at first...

But charged towards the waves with no fear once he discovered them!
We went to Sea World with his cousins. Scott loved looking at the fish and had the best time of his life in tot's land!
We also celebrated Easter with family in the area.

It was a great trip! Thanks to Nate's parent's for letting us come!
We sure missed Nate though so it was nice to come home.
Why did we ever leave San Diego?! We love it there!

The Bottomless Pit

It seems that Scott is a bottomless pit these days.
He can eat and eat and EAT!
His 1 year appointment definitely provided evidence of this.
He is literally off the chart for height and head size and in the 98th percentile for weight.

This is the chart with the normal growth curve. Scott is the square above the line.

The doctor said it's ok he is so big because he is proportional and very coordinated.
He is probably just meant to be a big guy!
I'm just worried when he is 2 people will expect him to act like a 5-year-old.
For now he is still bald so he looks his age.
The other day I took him to the gym and a bunch of kids yelled out "Hey! Look at the walking baby!"

I guess we will just consider ourselves lucky to have such a good eater.
And let the 3-course meals continue!

Tagged. 11 Random Facts.

My friend Jessica tagged me in one of the 11 random facts posts.
I like reading when other people answer posts like this so I thought I'd respond!

THE RULES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- Post these rules
- Post a photo and eleven random things about yourself
- Answer the questions provided by the one who tagged you
- Create eleven new questions for the people you tag
- Contact those you choose and let them know they've been tagged

I hardly ever take pictures of myself so here is a picture of me when I was 3 with my bear "pinky".

Randoms:

1. I really like jazz music. I used to listen to smooth jazz 105.9 as a kid and my first CD in 3rd grade was Duke Ellington's Greatest Hits. Secretly I would love to learn how to scat...

2. I love the 4th of July. It's in the middle of summer and I love having a BBQ then going to watch fireworks. It's a low-key holiday, but always so fun!

3. My parents are the classiest people I know - because they are without trying to be. They are both very well-educated and love learning. My Dad frequently plays Bossa Nova after dinner and they do things like make homemade biscotti on New Year's.

4. I do really well and keep cool in extreme emergency situations. And I feel like I would survive a lot of fictional apocalyptic situations because of it.

5. I don't like it when people talk about money.

6. I did nerdy things like sing in choir, swim, and run cross country all 4 years of high school.

7. Cooking is therapeutic for me (unless I'm trying to make dinner when Scott is being needy). Chopping up vegetables and seeing a meal come together really relieves stress.

8. Nate and I were friends for over a year before we started dating. And we secretly liked each other the whole time.

9. I taught little kid's swim lessons and mommy-and-me baby swim classes at the community center during high school.

10. I am a huge Daddy's girl. I talk to my Dad on the phone several times a week sometimes for over an hour.

11. I love going out to breakfast. Probably more than going out to dinner.

Questions:

1. What's your first memory? My brother pushing me around in a laundry basket in our old house.
2. What has the happiest moment in your life been thus far? Well besides my wedding day, going to our first appointment after I found out I was pregnant and seeing Scott 9-weeks along on the ultrasound. I cried my eyes out. We thought it would be really hard to get pregnant because I have a fertility problem and were so happy/grateful.
3. If you could be a character in a book you have read, who would you be? Julia Child in My Life in France. She loved her husband and got to learn everything about cooking in none other than Paris, France!
4. What makes you the most happy? Being with Nate and Scott on Sunday afternoon after church, just hanging out with nothing to do.
5. When do you feel the most beautiful? On my wedding day. I don't know if I would fit into my dress now! And I was really tan. I am a sunscreen fanatic and will probably never be that tan again.
6. Who has made the biggest impact on your life? My parents. Such a typical answer but they both have equally so.
7. What is your favorite quote? I have several... but here are a few:
Self discipline is doing what you want to do when you don't feel like doing it.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.
Never suppress a generous thought.
8.  What is your favorite movie? A close tie between Ferris Buhler's Day Off and Ever After.
9. What is your most recent embarrassing moment? Throwing up when I was 8 months pregnant under the Christmas tree at my in-laws house on Christmas morning.
10. If you could live in anywhere in the world, where would it be? Hmm... the million dollar question! Nate and I talk about this all the time and have no idea. In a dream world I would love to live in New York City for awhile.
11. Would you rather eat breakfast or dinner for the rest of your life? Breakfast!

Now I'm going to cheat and not tag anyone else. Although, I do have a feeling similar to that of when you would get a chain letter in Elementary School saying the letter would make it in the Genius Book of World Record's unless YOU didn't continue it.
